The Paediatric Dentist is a specialist dental practitioner who is dedicated to the care of the oral health of children, from the very young to those in their teenage years, and those patients with special needs.
Paediatric dentists have completed an addtional 3 year university degree in addition to their dental degree. The training is university and hospital based at one of the major Children's Hospitals. This provides paediatric dentists with the additonal skills required to manage the wide variety of dental conditions that occur in young people and those with special needs. This advanced training is what distinguishes a Specialist Paediatric Dentist from a general dentist, dental therapist or dental hygienist.
